The story of the painting
Kwiaty 006 takes a slightly different look at the whole Kwiaty (Flowers) series, which is inspired by Dutch still lifes where brightly coloured flowers appear against a dark background. Here it's the other way round. An intense, colourful background contrasts with black and white flowers, as if someone had swapped the colours and made a painted negative. It's partly a game and partly a break with convention.
The painting plays with form and texture. An angular vase meets a round, almost inflated black flower. Strong contrasts and varied textures give the whole work its character.
The work combines painting and collage. It uses black and white inkjet prints, texture paste and the markers used for tagging. The result is a painting full of energy, with a wink, that can be a bold splash of colour in a modern interior.
The painting can hang without a frame, because its sides are painted. It will also look good in a black lacquered frame, as one of the visualisations shows.
The image of the painting in a frame was generated by AI.
Painted by Krzysztof Lewandowski, known on the streets of Warsaw as Running Art.
