About

„People see me as a colourful character. But inside I have far more colours than they can see. I paint to show them to the world.”
Krzysztof Lewandowski

Who I am

I'm Krzysztof Lewandowski, a painter and performer. I also take photos and make short films. On social media and in the streets of Warsaw people know me as Running Art: the guy who runs through the city with his paintings.

How I paint

My style owes a lot to the streets of Berlin. My latest works sit where Warsaw tradition meets the Berlin avant-garde.

I experiment with form, texture and material: fluorescent paint, aluminium foil, bubble wrap. I keep looking for new ways to build a painting.

Lately I'm drawn to contrast: a bright, glossy object on a grey, matte, rough background, like a sticker on a wall. To me a sticker is a sign of rebellion, something that turns up in a space even when it's hard to explain. These paintings will age and grey over time. Their essence will stay.

What I paint

I don't stick to one subject. I paint personal and social themes, dreams and dreamlike images, and in the Colour of Masculinity series I look at men and emotions today. Every painting can be a story of its own: one person's story, or an attempt to catch something that's hard to put into words.
