The story of the painting
This painting from the Kwiaty (Flowers) series hides a secret of colour. You've probably seen old paintings in museums where figures, trees and other elements are unnaturally blue. That's the result of pigments oxidising. When I painted this one, I did it on purpose: I used only shades of blue together with black and white, as a nod to the blue paintings of years ago.
The painting shows flowers, but there is also a theme of infinity and planets. With a wink, I put an astronaut's helmet into the bouquet, adding lightness, wit and a touch of cosmic fantasy.
Silver accents and graphic elements add another dimension. They reflect and refract light, so the painting changes its character depending on the angle you look from. This mix of painting, graphics and metallic sheen gives it a contemporary, slightly futuristic feel.
Its large format means the painting can be a strong accent in an interior. It can be shown without a frame, or you can have it framed. Most of my paintings have painted edges, so they also look good without frames.
