The story of the painting
With its unusual, elongated shape, this painting suits modern interiors very well, especially narrow spaces where there's no room for a large painting but you still want to catch the eye.
A modern form meets a classic depiction of flowers. Geometric shapes contrast with delicate, feathery flowers. Motifs that look like children's drawings are another distinctive element: small pink flowers appear, as if painted by a child's hand. Patches of colour contrast with flowers pasted into the painting, taken from Dutch painting.
The colours compete with each other, and the dance of colour brings dynamism. For the vase I used texture paste and the glossy markers used in street art. I set different forms, textures and colours against each other to give the vase movement. The whole painting is full of motion and energy. Shading gives it depth, and its colours bring optimism and warmth into a room.
