Night of Skyscrapers 2026

During the Night of Skyscrapers on 17 October 2026 I showed a solo exhibition at Alterpose.Studio, in a beautiful first-floor space. It was part of a wide art map of Warsaw on which many excellent artists showed their work.

The heart of it was a new series of flower paintings. After working on a series about masculinity, which left me emotionally drained, I needed something light and full of colour. I simply wanted to paint and enjoy the process itself: not dig too deep into difficult subjects, but feel the expression, the frenzy of creating and the freedom of mixing colours.

That is what the “Kwiaty” series is. Once again I went for unexpected colour combinations, varied textures and contrasts. Alongside acrylic there were collage, pasted-in prints and the markers street artists use for tagging. I set soft forms against sharp lines and textured paints, building layered compositions full of energy. The series also draws a lot of attention on Instagram.

The display itself was special. The paintings hung on chains from the ceiling, so you could see them from every side: not just the painted surface, but also the back of the canvas, the signature and the stretcher. A painting stopped being a flat surface on a wall and became an object you could get to know more closely.

The inspiration was Dutch flower painting, especially bouquets on a dark ground. You can see it in my work, though I tell it my own expressive way. In one painting I reversed the traditional scheme: instead of a dark ground there is an intense pink, while the flowers and their surroundings turned dark, almost black.

“Kwiaty” is a series full of optimism, energy and the joy of making. It arrived just before autumn and winter, which in our part of Europe bring less light and often dampen the mood. These paintings are an invitation to enter that season with more colour, good energy and the pleasure of paint.
